Polymer Glock 17 - I built a glock! Sort. I milled the frame a bit for what would be a Glock. Basically I dreamled and sent in some polymer until the slides and little things fit. It's not that complicated but I admit I enjoyed the achievement when I fired it safely. The Polymer 80 is not considered a weapon when you buy it. You can literally buy it on Amazon and have it shipped to your home. Some states have crazy laws about listing your manufactured firearms but most don't. The Polymer 80 frame is not necessarily based on the original Glock frame, but it does work with Glock parts. The Polymer 80 PF940V2 has undergone a few design changes.

The most important thing is that they have changed the ergonomics of grip and better handling. There is no finger groove and the grip angle of the 80 frame is 1911ish 18 degrees with a standard Glock 22. The gun also features a full length Picatinny rail.

Also, the rear of the frame is irregular (but longer than the Glock frame). This is the standard full size Glock 17 frame, but they also offer 26, 19 and hybrid frames that feature a Glock 17 display on a Glock 19 grip. These frames are designed to work with Gen 3 parts.

I don't want to go too deep into the build process or the grind process. Milling the Polymer 80 was easy, I used nothing but a Dremel and a hand drill. Of course, Polymer 80 provides the necessary jig and drill to finish the gun. I also used a small file for the signature that fits the slide in the frame.

I used a Gen 3 Glock 17 clip with what appeared to be a Larry Vickers trigger block. It has FDE and Ameriglo sights. The barrel is something I've had lying around for a while and I'm not sure who made it. There is no marking other than the caliber and model number. It was given to me. The barrel is threaded stainless steel and fits and works effortlessly.

The gun uses OEM parts for the small parts of the box made from Polymer 80. I use a magazine release and a bolt release. Installing parts in a Glock is very easy, even easier than an AR15. To clarify, making Polymer 80 is simple and easy.

Hitting the range with the Polymer 80 was a hit or miss thing. The first few times I went to the range, I would have a glitch, come home, file a little and come back to the range. I've also read on several forums that you have to cycle the slide a hundred times before it fires reliably. I actually did this during registration.

I always call the idea of ​​introducing a new gun in 2019 bullshit, and modern manufacturers must be right. However, I am by no means a modern manufacturer. The gun needed a break in period and to do that I loaded three ETS 31 magazines. After each magazine, the gun got a little better. I have less failure to remove and drop out along the way.

The process goes like this: fire a magazine of ammunition, file, add fuel, fire another magazine…. I was so happy the first time I read an entire magazine without coming out. After that, the gun ran like an athlete. Took about 150 rounds to break in, but now runs reliably.

Since the gun is straight, the sliding frame should not be sluiced. The barrel has traditional rifling and friction, but seems to get the job done. Ameriglo's visuals are pretty good overall. I've been ringing the metal out to fifty yards on my favorite small popper.

As a full 9mm handgun you don't expect much return and you don't get a lot. The small beavertail adds a bit of rear utility to keep the gun down and increase your grip. It is easy to achieve shooting quickly and accurately. I can do a full blast on the comp because I already run a threaded barrel.

As I mentioned earlier, there are some initial issues until things start running smoothly. The gun I built myself is not for real use, but I like to shoot it. I seem to have overcome some real problems with confidence.

I also wanted to make sure it was relevant to the magazine. What's the point of a Glock wannabe if it doesn't rely on a Glock magazine? I have tested it with the ETS magazines mentioned above, Magpul Glock magazines, KCI Glock magazines, and of course OEM magazines. All of them run very reliably and there are no issues during input and output. The same goes for feeding rounds into the gun.

Ergonomically, I really like this gun. The grip is amazing and the lack of fingerprints is a big deal for me. It's a huge grip, but I have big hands and I like it. The extended magazine release and slide lock are very good. Like all Glocks, mine has a thumb slide lock so the slide does not lock when the weapon is loaded.

The Polymer 80 has a deep cut under the trigger guard that allows you to hold a larger gun and have more control. Additionally, the magazine release has a nice cut relief and this makes the magazine release easier on the head than a standard Glock magazine release.

Overall, I prefer the ergonomics of the Polymer 80 frame over the standard Glock. Even compared to the new Gen 5 I prefer the Polymer Frame 80. The grip is better and feels more natural to me. This is normal, and if you choose a grip that is intuitive.

One of the best features is the fact that the Polymer 80 is a seamless design. Glock has a great market and you can start from the ground up and build the gun you want with the trigger, controls, slide, sights and barrel you want.

The only downside is that I have found that some of the holsters I have for my classic Glock 17 will not fit the P80, however, some fit just fine. This is definitely something you need to check before buying a holster.

The Glock Gen 3 has a large number of aftermarket slides and seems to be the most popular of the slide options. The Polymer 80 PF940V2 is easy to adjust and you can go deep to make this gun the way you want it. It's one of the best projects I've done in a while, and I can't wait to make another one.
